Most people think recovery is rest days. It's not. Recovery is what happens between every session, every day, every night. If you only "recover" on Sundays, you're losing 6 days of progress.
Why most active people undertrain recovery
Recovery is invisible. You can't post a recovery PR. You can't track recovery on Strava. Nobody high-fives you for going to bed at 10pm.
So it gets deprioritised, even though it's where the actual adaptation happens. The session breaks the tissue. Recovery rebuilds it stronger. No recovery means the second session lands on broken tissue, the third session lands on broken tissue, and within three weeks you're either injured, plateaued, or both.
What real recovery looks like
It's not one thing. It's a stack of small inputs across the day:
During the session: hydration, fuel.
Immediately after: protein within 60 minutes, mobility work, fresh water.
Through the day: magnesium support for worked muscle groups (topical cream on quads, calves, shoulders — depending on what you trained). Continued hydration.
Evening: heat (sauna, hot shower, hot bath), magnesium soak if it's been a hard session.
Sleep: the actual rebuild. 7 to 9 hours. Cool room. Bedside cream.
Next morning: light mobility, check in on tightness, fuel before the next session.
None of this is exciting. All of it compounds.
Where topical magnesium does the work
For active people, topical magnesium covers three of these recovery moments:
- Post-session: Recovery Cream into the worked muscle groups. Two minutes per area. Speeds up the relaxation phase of recovery.
- Evening soak: Bath salts. Whole-body absorption when you need a full reset (post-long-run, post-leg-day, post-hard-training-week).
- Pre-sleep: Foot butter or cream into the calves before bed. Supports the sleep that does the actual rebuild.
This isn't a substitute for the rest of recovery. It's a layer on top.
The mistake to avoid
Most people layer recovery products on top of poor sleep, poor hydration, poor fueling. That's a way to spend money without progress.
The order is: get sleep right first, hydration second, food third. Then stack on magnesium, mobility, foam rolling, cold plunges, all of it. In that order.
Build the recovery ritual into your training
The Recovery Ritual bundle is designed for this. Cream for post-session, spritz for daily reset, foot butter for pre-sleep. Three products, one consistent ritual, six days of recovery instead of one.
Train hard. Recover smarter. Show up sharper tomorrow.
